incubation
A gravid female will fill out in the posterior half of her body. Even though she may continue to eat, her tail will decrease in diameter as she uses up her fat stores for egg production. Several weeks prior to oviposition, the female will often shed.

As oviposition nears, the female will often become restless and dig around her cage. Eventually she will retreat to her nest box. She should be kept separate from other Gilas during this time to prevent stress and the eating of any eggs by cage-mates.

Gila Monsters lay from 2-13 eggs, the number being somewhat proportional to the size of the female.
