| Gilas appear to require a winter cooling period for
successful reproduction. This is begun in late November or early December, and completed
by March or April. At
least two weeks prior to hibernation feeding should be stopped. This will allow time for
any food to be digested before cooling.
The temperature should be slowly
lowered and then maintained at about 55 degrees F. At the end of the cooling period, the
temperature is slowly brought back up. |
